As part of the “Excellence Is Woman” Congress, which inaugurated the celebrations marking the 40th anniversary of the Nobel Prize awarded to Dr. Rita Levi-Montalcini, distinguished personalities from the worlds of science, culture, journalism, and the arts were honored.
On September 18, 2026, in the name of knowledge, culture, and women’s talent, the “Excellence Is Woman” Congress was held at Palazzo Valentini in Rome. The event inaugurated the program of activities dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, awarded in 1986 to the Italian scientist Rita Levi-Montalcini.
The Levi-Montalcini Foundation played an important role in the event and was represented by its President, Piera Levi-Montalcini, Vice President Claudia Geromel Levi-Montalcini, and Dr. Marcello Merlino.
Among the distinguished Italian personalities attending the event was Angela Kosta, who was honored with the “Rita Levi-Montalcini” Award for Excellence, alongside prominent figures from journalism, culture, the arts, and science.
A particularly significant moment of the ceremony was the presentation of the award to international cultural promoter Angela Kosta by the Nobel laureate’s granddaughter, Dr. Piera Levi-Montalcini, President of the Levi-Montalcini Foundation, together with her daughter, Dr. Claudia Geromel Levi-Montalcini, Vice President of the Foundation. Their presence gave the award a particularly special significance.
The congress was promoted by the Tiberina Academy, in collaboration with the Levi-Montalcini Foundation and the International Cultural Academy Cartagine 2.0, with the participation of Guglielmo Marconi University.
The “Excellence Is Woman” initiative was created with the aim of recognizing women’s intelligence, creativity, and contribution to the fields of science, culture, and society.
At the heart of the initiative is the figure of Dr. Rita Levi-Montalcini, Nobel laureate in Physiology or Medicine, scientist, Senator for life, and one of the most important figures in Italian scientific research.
Conceived as an annual event, the initiative originated within the Department of Literature of the Tiberina Academy, where Angela Kosta serves as President of the Press Office, with the aim of creating a permanent space for study, dialogue, and cultural promotion.
The Tiberina Academy, registered with the United Nations, has a history spanning 213 years and forms part of the tradition of Italian academic institutions.
At the opening of the event, a minute of silence was observed in memory of Italian politician Emma Bonino.
